- <p> Is PAUL MCCARTNEY turning out to be the Gordon Gekko of the
- Woodstock era? The former Beatle is hot to renegotiate a more
- lucrative royalty payment plan for Northern Songs, the Beatles
- catalog purchased by Michael Jackson for $47.5 million during
- the deal-crazed '80s. Every time a Lennon-McCartney song plays,
- Paul receives part of a composer's royalty fee, which he now
- feels should be increased. McCartney contends he's written to
- the chameleonlike superstar three times to settle the matter
- but never got a response. Alas, no rapprochement means no more
- duets.
